Humboldt Harriers: Introduction
Humboldt Harriers
Humboldt Harriers is a high school cross country club.
We provide coaching, practices, and competitive
opportunities.
Athletes are welcome to train with the club even if they choose
not to compete in the races.
Website: https://humboldtharriers.blogspot.com/
Also, you can find us at www.athletic.net. (once our account is activated)
The races are for those who desire to compete and are able
to provide transportation to and from the races.
This is a “new” club, and our website and plans are still in
development.
Covid Concerns
Cross Country seasons and championships have taken place
across the United States during the pandemic, with success and safety. Although
there is a risk for all of us during the pandemic, this is the lowest risk sport.
We minimize risk by doing the following:
- Mask wearing whenever we cannot socially distance.
- Our sport and practices are outdoors only.
- During extreme exertion and competition, masks are not required. Even then, because we are outdoors and “moving”, the risk of transmission is minimal.
- Travel “ban”: It is recommended that people not travel at this time. Because of this, we will not participate in social interactions outside of our competition. We can drive through for fast food and get gas for our vehicles, but we will not be visiting malls, shopping, or eating indoors.
- We will not be talking to the media about the races or the results. I do not want our athletes subject to public criticism. Our intent is to have fun and to develop as athletes and as a team.
Cost
·
Fundraising Goal: $2500 (Entry fees are
typically $200/race/team). Cost of gas, uniforms, etc.
· Suggested donation: $50/athlete
Uniforms: We will be providing singlets for the runners. Athletes must get their own shorts. Girls' 3" inseam black spandex. For boys, I recommend all-black shorts with 5" inseam.
·
Business sponsors: $500
All funds are going to be placed in a club bank account.
Transactions and balances will be reviewed monthly by the coaching staff.
Donations and payments should be made payable to “Humboldt
Harriers”.
Athletes are responsible to provide their own transportation
to meets. If you want your athlete to travel to a meet, but cannot provide them
with transportation, please let me know. There is an insurance release form
that must be completed if any athletes do not travel with their legal guardian.
Five Races
These
meets are currently scheduled and are hosted by schools that are “open”. There
is the possibility of cancellations due to Covid-19.
· Saturday,

9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. This is the only meet requiring overnight lodging. Athletes
and parents can get lodging at hotels. I am also in the process of finding a
church where we can put mattresses down with social distancing, to reduce the
cost of travel. Please let me know if you are interested in this option. This
is one of the best meets in California. Registration is due December 14th.
Please let me know if you want to register for this race.
